Dan Shafer: A Man of Many Hats

Dan Shafer is a 37-year-old musician who also has skills in audio engineering, production, and education.
He has been playing music since the age of 12, using it as a creative outlet to successfully express himself and build a community in which he could flourish.
“I started like many others in middle school band, playing trombone, before I chased punk rock dreams with my friends playing bass and diving further into jazz, orchestral music, and music theater.”
All those different things then went on to influence Dan into pursuing two college degrees in both music theory and composition.
Dan Shafer’s band, The Losing Game, formed in 2020 in Bradenton, Florida frequently plays Oscura’s stage when Dan is not behind the sound board for the monthly Open Mic Night.“You can find me around town wearing many different hats.” When asked about Oscura, he exclaimed,
“Oscura is the epicenter of creatives in our city. It’s my home away from home and the third place for so many.”
He then went on to say “It’s a community focused on growth, expression, collaboration, and sharing. It's a community that fosters.” It is also known that Dan and his best friend met at Oscura during the monthly open mic night which developed into an opportunity for the pair to tour through the UK and Ireland together as a team. Oscura has been known to tend many relationships, just like theirs, into glorious opportunities and continues to act as a safe-haven for growth and community in Bradenton and the surrounding areas.
